Who I Am

Hi, my name is Freshta and I’m the founder of FT Translation Services. I’m of Afghan descent and take great pride in being raised in New York. I currently serve as Cornerstones Lead Family Interventionist.

I’ve had a long and successful career serving the needs of others, specifically the marginalized, low-income refugee families of, mainly, South and Central Asian and Middle Eastern descent.

As a subject matter expert, I have advised and lectured on various topics relating to domestic violence, refugee rights, and holistic health.

My Work

I have utilized my interpretation skills of the Dari/Farsi language to assist refugees from Afghanistan in pro-bono cases. I have represented these asylees and successfully assisted them in obtaining asylum in every case. I have worked with several not for profit organizations such as Cornerstone Family and Marriage Intervention, and served as the Program Director for one of the largest NJ culturally sensitive domestic violence social service agencies and have clients such as the IRC, just to name a few.

I served as Al Jazeera America’s finance and expense auditor and lead the newsroom coordination. I enjoyed several years working in the field of mergers & acquisitions at Mackenzie Partners in Midtown Manhattan.

I’m most proud to have been honored by InsiderNJ’s “Top 50 Most Influential New Jersey Muslims in Academia, Business, Government, Law, Law Enforcement, Non Profit, Politics, Religion & Social Justice in 2020”.

I’ve also worked in various media outlets such as the New York Times, and am a Board Member of the Afghan-American Foundation

I teach Behavioral Health Interpretation courses to various groups including mental health providers in NOVA

I’ve created sub-titles (converted from Dari to English) for Dan Rather Reports episodes such as “The First Women Afghan Pilots.”

What I Hope To Do

Through providing culturally competent intervention and other services, I hope to bridge the gap and disparities that we have with respect to language and culture. Human beings need to feel seen, heard and understood in order to be welcomed to the fabric of our society.
